After the unashamed awesomeness of the first game, it seems reasonable to assume that Portal 2 will be a fantastic game no matter the format. As promised however, Valve are delivering a PS3 experience that will be superior to the 360 one – and we’re not talking about an extra three pixels on your character’s shoelaces.
“We designed the Portal 2 PS3 experience to be very straightforward for gamers,” said Josh Weier, project lead on Portal 2 at Valve. “PS3 gamers will be able to simply drop the Blu-Ray disc in the PS3, link to their Steam account from inside the game, and all their Steam friends (on PC and Mac) will be visible and accessible for chat and game invites.”
Yes – cross platform play & chat between PC, Mac, and PS3! On top of that, PS3 gamers will be offered cloud storage for their game saves (something that may excite Grumpy Gurevitz). Fantastic news… so long as you own a gaming PC/Mac or PS3. We think that perhaps some 360 owners without any of these will have some unkind words to growl in Valve’s direction; though to these disgruntled gamers, we would point out that it seems an existing Steam account and friends list is necessary to take advantage of the cross–platform features.
Now if only Sony and Microsoft would kiss and make up, and allow us a game with 100% cross-platform play…
I’m really looking forward to cross platform play and chat on this game. If only you could do the same with PS3 and 360, that would be awesome! Maybe one day they will kiss and make up! Peace and Love etc.
