It’s time for enthusiasts to grab their bald cap and piano wire as IO Interactive has finally and officially revealed the next game in the murderous Hitman series.
Titled Hitman Absolution, the game is set to be released in 2012 on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. We still know very little about the game, but towards the end of the above teaser trailer the barcode digits 110706 illuminate. Feeding this through our American date translation software, this looks like it means June 7, the first day of E3. Could this mean a full reveal at the gaming event of the year?
The only information we have at the moment is what the official blurb from IO has told us. It reads: “Betrayed by those he trusted and hunted by the police, Agent 47 finds himself at the centre of a dark conspiracy and must embark on a personal journey through a corrupt and twisted world, in his search for the truth.”
IO game director Tore Blystad explains: “For the first time we are taking Agent 47 on a personal journey which allows us to explore other parts of the Hitman fantasy.
“This is both a familiar and yet significantly different experience to any of the other Hitman games, something our silent assassins will relish as well as those who are new to the Hitman world.”
Absolution will be the fifth game in the series, following on from Blood Money that was released in 2006. Since then, IO Interactive has been at the helm of the critically less successful Kane and Lynch series.
