It’s possibly the most overdue and long awaited snippet of basic information of the year, but Nintendo have confirmed they will reveal the release date and recommended retail price of the Wii U tomorrow morning at 8am UK time.
We’ll get the information via a Wii U webcast on the official Nintendo Direct page. This will be followed later in the afternoon by a European Wii U Nintendo Direct event featuring Nintendo of Europe president Satoru Shibata, who will “take a closer look at the upcoming Wii U console”.
This is the information we all expected at E3, so it will be interesting to see if we will be “pleasantly surprised” by the price point as Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime says we will be.
“Nintendo believes in being a mass market product, so unlike our competitors when they’ve launched historical systems to maybe start at a really high price and work their way down, we don’t believe in that,” said Mr Fils-Aime.
“We want to launch at a price that’s going to represent an ongoing great value. If you look at the Wii, we stayed at $250 for a really long time, so we’re going to give that same level of thought to Wii U.”
