Rumours have been rife for months that both Sony and Microsoft are on the verge of showing off their next generation consoles. Sony have made the first move today by releasing a short teaser trailer on the PlayStation blog, which points to an announcement dubbed ‘See The Future’ on 20 February, which is only a few short weeks away. So is this the reveal of the PlayStation 4 or something completely different?
Along with the trailer, the press have been sent out invites to an event in New York on 20 February, which can only mean it’s not the announcement of a sequel to EyePet, but something much bigger. Earlier today Edge reported that development sources who had worked on both next gen consoles stated that the PlayStation 4 will be slightly more powerful than the next gen Xbox, and will arrive with a redesigned controller, which will feature a touchpad similar to the one found on the back of the PlayStation Vita. Edge also state that they have been told that the launch of Sony’s next gen console is to take place towards the end of the year in the US and Japan, with the new console arriving in Europe at the start of 2014.
It certainly sounds like Sony are going to be announcing something huge on 20 February, so hopefully if it is the next gen PlayStation, all the rumours about terraflops and other technical mumbo jumbo will disappear, and we can concentrate on what the next gen means in terms of the games.
