Marvel Super Heroes are coming to Disney Infinity

What do you get if you take your Disney Infinity base, stick it with a syringe full of Super Soldier Serum, and blast it with an unhealthy amount of Vita-Rays? We’ll all get to find out this Autumn when Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes launches.

In a suitably awkward press conference – ostensibly hosted by Clark Gregg – it was announced that the Marvel Universe will be invading Disney Infinity, beginning with a Starter Set that features the game disc, base, Avengers game piece and figures of Thor, Iron Man, and Black Widow. Figures of Hulk, Iron Man, and Hawkeye were also on show at the event, with promises of at least a dozen more to come – the announcement video hinting at Loki, MODOK, Rocket Raccoon and Spider-Man.

Hulk Smash Included.

In a financially merciful act that the Skylanders team really need to learn from, you won‘t be forced to buy a new, expensive base this year; the one packed in with last year’s Disney Infinity will work fine, as will your figures, power discs, and Toy Box levels.

Marvel’s introduction also brings a ton of new features. Superheroes can’t save kittens from trees if they’re stuck on the ground, so certain characters now have the ability of flight, sure to be helpful considering the Marvel Manhattan area is four times as large as the Incredibles play set from last year. There’ll also be a skill tree, enabling players to customize the ability of Thor and friends as they level up.

The tone of this picture hinges on one burning question: Did the taxi driver get out in time!?

Toy Box Games will offer more structured play and the starter set features two of these; a Tower Defence level and a Dungeon Crawler level. Players will be able to make these themselves in the overhauled Toy Box, designed with accessibility in mind after complaints of the original being too complicated. Templates will make everything a little easier, allowing you to create your world and then drop in all the parts to make it a fully functional level.

Finally, Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes will be coming to Playstation 4 and Xbox One as well as returning to Playstation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U, and PC. Whether or not this is because the extra power was needed to process Hulk in all of his green splendour wasn’t clarified.
