When the game breaks its own rules for narrative purposes it hurts both the gameplay and the story. The gameplay becomes seemingly moot and your actions seem to have little to no influence on the characters, which in turn makes you feel much less involved in the story.

While not attempting to broadcast it on a global scale, I also have not hidden my dislike for Steam. Dislike probably isn’t a strong enough word, but it’s the best I can hope for with my editor metaphorically staring over my shoulder with a Scottish slang booklet in one hand and a guide to Japanese cursing in the other in case I try to get creative.

Great news for Apple Mac owners, Valve have just released the download gaming service Steam for the platform. There are initially 63 games to download, including World of Goo, Braid and Lucasarts Monkey Island series, and new games shall be getting released every Wednesday from now on.

Valve have announced the first piece of DLC for Left 4 Dead 2, which according to Rock Paper Shotgun will see the survivors from Left 4 Dead meeting their sequel counterparts.

Left 4 Dead came out last year to critical acclaim, lauded as one of the most satisfying co-op experiences yet to be found in gaming. One year on and it’s still difficult to argue any differently. Co-op is found more and more in games, but few have the efficiency of design to be encountered in L4D, with every aspect of the game balanced and focused around operating as part of a team.

Now that the Left 4 Dead 2 demo is open to everyone, it’s time to share our thoughts on Valves latest zombie splatterer. The demo only offers a brief glimpse at what we can expect come November 18th and the release of the full game, but it’s enough to whet our appetites.
