THQ have today confirmed an expansion for Dawn of War II, subtitled Chaos Rising. Picking up where the previous campaign left off, Chaos Rising allows you to import your old squads and raises the level cap to 30. You’ll defend the Blood Angels sector from the Chaos Space Marines as they attempt to wrest it from your control, probably using violence.
20 new missions are promised, along with new Chaos tainted wargear, though equipping it will apparently have ‘dreadful consequences’. Chaos will be a playable faction in multiplayer, but players of the other four factions need not fear, as new units will be available for each of them, alongside a number of new multiplayer maps.
Chaos aren’t perhaps a surprising choice for an expansion, but they are a welcome one. Orks may be violent brawlers and Tyranids may be the devourers of worlds, but Chaos worship dark gods and embody corruption and evil, which makes cutting them up with a chainsword all the more brutally satisfying.
That said, it’s a shame we won’t get to step into the shoes of Chaos in the singleplayer game, at least it is unless those ‘dreadful consequences’ have something to say about it.
