Left 4 Dead 2 – Realism and Scavenger modes announced

Two new modes have have been detailed today for Valves zombie-fest sequel, over at 1up.com

First of all there’s the Scavenger mode, a competitive multiplayer game type, where the survivors must gather fuel to power up a generator, whilst those playing as the infected attempt to delay and kill them. Gathering fuel will add time to the clock and give the survivors team a point. Once a round ends, roles will swap with the survivors becoming the infected and vice-versa. The two teams will battle it out over six rounds in total, the winner being the team with the most points at the end.

The mode is designed to give players a fast paced experience that’s less time intensive than Versus. Which will come in handy for those of us who do not possess the iron bladder that is almost compulsory for a full game of Versus.

The second mode is Realism, of which details are still scarce, Valve’s Doug Lombardi suggesting that it’s for the ’super hardcore’ player. We can only speculate that it will involve survivors shooting each other in the leg and squealing “Take him!! His brains are far tastier than mine!!” as they attempt to escape the hordes of undeath.

Left 4 Dead 2 is due out Novermber 17th on Xbox 360 and PC.
