Hellgate: London to Unleash Hell. Again.

Hellgate: London is returning as Hellgate: Resurrection.

Hell is returning to the streets of London this year.

In Korea, that is.

According to GameTab, HanbiSoft is revamping and rereleasing Hellgate: London, the only title from the now-extinct Flagship Studios. Hanbisoft acquired full rights to the title from Namco Bandai, who previously held publishing rights in the West. With complete control over the product and its distribution, Hanbisoft is planning a worldwide relaunch of the game.

Hellgate: Resurrection is heading towards success in Korea such that we decided to push ahead with launching the game overseas next year,” said HanbiSoft CEO Kee-Young Kim. “We will do our best to get the game to the fans as soon as possible.”

Hellgate: London met neither critical nor commercial success when it was released in 2008. While some praised the action RPG’s rich atmosphere and its extensive amount of enemies (not to mention LOOT), the title met heavy criticism, most of which targeted its weak online component and repetitive gameplay.

HanbiSoft is looking to fix all that this year. The game has been re-released in Korea as Hellgate: Resurrection, after receiving an extensive overhaul. In addition to the gameplay changes, users will no longer have to pay a subscription fee to play online.

We would like to thank Namco Bandai Games America for allowing us to acquire the Hellgate publishing rights and are thrilled to have eager gamers worldwide return and enjoy the franchise,” said Kim.

I’m disappointed that such a great game is coming back as a Korean re-release. I don’t mean to sound racist, but I really can’t stand Korean online games, it’s always the same run down. Bad servers, bad customer support, poorly written site, and of course, item malls. But I guess anything is better than losing this gem forever, Thanks Kim.

Well, look at Dungeons and Dragons online, they revamped with their F2P model and doing better than ever. I hope the same happens here, although I was a huge critic when it failed.
