PSN crash checklist

As you probably know, the PlayStation Network crashed across at least two continents last night. This time however, it wasn’t a simple case of users being signed out of PSN without being able to sign back in again; it seems that thousands if not millions of PS3 consoles have been interfered with. If your console is suffering from some or all of the following, it’s almost certainly Sony’s fault and not yours:
- Date and time reset to the beginning of the year 2000
- Some or all downloaded themes corrupted
- Some or all downloaded games refusing to work/reset to trial versions
- Some or all trophy enabled disc based games refusing to load due to a problem with ‘trophy registration’; error code 8001050F
- Trophy collection incomplete or missing
- Inability to install demos
Irate PS3 owners will be hoping that all of this is reversible. The situation raises a question that must be asked, especially as many of those affected were playing offline at the time; how and why are PS3 consoles connected so strongly to the PlayStation Network?
So the Secret Sony Ninja Police can keep an eye on us, I’m telling you man, THEY EXISIT!!!!
Seriously though, I noticed this last night and didn’t think much of it. This morning however I found I had to go through terms and agreements again. I figured this is for those about to sign up to PSN+ and decided to stop at that part of the agreements and read. Did you know that every PSP, mini and PSN/PS3 game you buy with a Plus account only lasts for as long as you hold subcription?
So if you decide not to keep going with it after a year, all the games and stuff you bought under that subcription just disappear! It’s a little underhanded I think and needless to say I don’t think I’ll be signing up for this ever.
I did read through a lot of the updated T & C, and have read that certain things brought would stay with the plus account from other sites. I’m not sure, but I would have thought that it was certain content that is brought via the plus account would be unavailable if you choose to cancel your subscription.
It makes no sense to remove access to content that would be yours if you had brought it via the free psn service.
Even if you get a 20% discount on say a map pack, you’re still going to be paying a certain amount. If the map pack is completely free and they remove your access after the subscription ends, that I can understand.
I’m not signing up for the plus service anyway. the free service is perfectly satisfactory and I’d rather spend £40 on LBP dlc or buy an actual game.
PlayStation Plus users get monthly goodies. Every 30 days, subscribers get PlayStation Network games, Minis, and PSone classics. However, if you let your subscription expire, you’ll be locked out of the “free” games you received as part of PlayStation Plus.
