He seems to be going for an Irish rough and ready gangster – type voice; but he actually sounds like he’s doing a passable impression of Mr Krabs from Spongebob Squarepants.

Square’s latest is an unfinished experiment, and the players are the unwitting guinea pigs. The game begins at a constipated pace, finally passing its first nugget of entertainment at about a dozen hours in. Those willing to subject themselves to such abuse will find pockets of brilliance in a product brimming with half-baked ideas.

What the blood and gore usually means is ripping apart torsos, ripping off heads, ripping out eyes, ripping off horns, and just generally more ripping than a two year old with your favourite magazine.

It’s nice to see a fairly meaty expansion pack that fleshes out the original game, in an age where DLC is now charging us through the spinal column for little, fairly insignificant bolt-ons.

The most important question is: how good a job does the compilation do? Official emulations tend to be lazy and, in the case of compilations, bafflingly random.

Just in case you haven’t been following us closely enough to have read our reviews of the first two episodes (for shame!), a Blue Toad episode runs thus: Twelve Professor Layton – style puzzles are scattered throughout a lighthearted detective mystery plotline, told entirely through cartoonish cut scenes (you also need to identify ‘whodunnit’ at the end). You can play through on your own or with up to three other people, in which case you’ll be swapping a single controller around old skool stylee.

Bioshock 2 does what we all wanted from the original and fixes you inside the lumbering, stompy boots of the Big Daddy. You have the tools, the sounds and the responsibilities that made the gentle, yet fearsomely deadly giants great.

The plot, you see, revolves around a serial killer who murders young boys. The whole thing is played almost constantly po – faced (understandably) but we shan’t delve much further into the plot here. Story is everything in Heavy Rain because, love it or hate it, everyone can surely agree that this is more story than game.

Even if you haven’t seen any, chances are you’ve at least heard of one of the Aliens or Predator movies or maybe even the ones where they crossed paths. They’ve also been involved in a number of games too and Rebellion, who already have a few under their belt, have taken another stab at perfecting the mix of xenomorphic creatures, hyper advanced hunters and squishy moving targets.
