Why So Charitable? 100 hour gaming marathon

Well meaning crazy man Matthew Ross is all set to take part in a 100 hour gaming marathon, in aid of the charity Child’s Play.

Child’s Play is a charity that provides games and games consoles to hospitals all around the world, allowing children with serious illness or injury who are often confined to bed to take their mind off their situation. We all know that games can be a release from stresses and pressures of life, Child’s Play hopes to give youngsters cooped up in hospital, often in the direst of situations, the chance to be children.

It’s a notably worthy cause and dedicated gamer Matthew Ross member of the Why So Serious? gaming community wants to bring attention to the charity by KILLING HIMSELF THROUGH GAMES. Actually no, that last part is untrue, we’ve checked with Matthew and he is taking his health extremely seriously throughout this venture.

The idea is that Matthew (aka Murdernickle) a 21 year old graphic designer from Pennsylvania will spend 100 consecutive hours playing on his PS3, with a live feed showing his progress. Below the feed will be a secure paypal transaction link where viewers can make a donation, with all proceeds going directly to the charity.

The stream will be interspersed with competitions and multiplayer sessions where viewers will get the opportunity to play with Matthew. Speaking to Critical Gamer, Matthew explains what he’ll be doing; “It will be running for 100 hours starting on October 14th, 2009 at 12:00PM EST.” He continues; “It will run the full 100 hours and will cease on October 18th at 4:00PM EST. During the broadcast I will be playing Uncharted 2 mostly but I also will be playing GTA IV, Dead Space, Mirrors Edge, Battlefield 1943, Killzone 2, and whatever else i may pop into my machine. I’m really not a game loyalist so I will be hopping around.”

If you want to watch the marathon and donate to the cause you’ll be able to tune in from both Matthew’s website http://www.whysocharitable.net/ or http://www.justin.tv/whysoseriousclan

Why So Charitable? has been backed by a number of supporters with http://www.shoescout.com/ providing competition prizes and http://gaming.justin.tv/ hosting his escapades.

We here at Critical Gamer want to wish Matthew, his fiancé (who’ll be cooking him some healthy natural meals to keep him going) and everyone else providing him with the support he’ll need the the very best. Except if we decide to play against him in one of the multiplayer sessions, in which case we’ll probably shoot at him and taunt him, as his exhausted frame fails to deal adequately with our exceptional gaming prowess (just kidding Matthew, good luck!).
